X: Structure and symbol

Context

X is a form loaded with meaning. It marks a location, defines an axis, signifies ten, and stands in for a kiss. It is also one of the most structurally efficient shapes - able to resist movement through opposition and balance.

This project began as an exploration of how a single form could operate simultaneously as symbol and structure.

Process

The series was conceived as a family of coffee and side tables built from cut steel sheet. Intersecting planes form a continuous X, creating a rigid, self-supporting structure with minimal material.

The geometry allows the form to feel light and open while remaining stable and load-bearing. By relying on repetition and intersection rather than mass, the tables express strength through configuration rather than weight.

Insight

Some forms carry meaning before they are understood. When structure and symbol align, form communicates on multiple levels at once.

Resolution

X is a series of tables defined by intersection. The resulting objects feel airy yet grounded - where visual openness and structural logic reinforce one another. The form remains immediately legible, whether read as a symbol, a structure, or both.
